Holley Outlying Field

The approximately square-mile Holley Outlying Field in Navarre (Santa Rosa Co. FL) is one of Whiting's 13 outlying fields. In 1997 more than 60,000 operations were performed at the Holley site in Navarre during the 240 days it was used. Holley is in Navy flight training plans at least until 2017. The 3,600-foot runways can be used for the current T-34C Navy student training jets. But because of development, the runways cannot be extended to 4,000 feet for the new Joint Primary Aircraft Training System aircraft to be used to train both Navy and Air Force pilots at Whiting beginning in 2002.

Santa Rosa County officials are interested in acquiring and redeveloping the Navy's outlying field, and want to explore joint use of civilian and military aircraft at the airfield. For years, county officials have wanted to convert 100 acres of the field in the northeast corner - the prime spot near US Highway 98 -- into an industrial site. County officials also believe the airstrips could be used by private pilots with minimal impact on the Navy's flight training.
